Gubbio and Gualdo Tourist Information

The Mount Cucco Regional Park, which extends over the towns of Scheggia, Costacciaro, Sigillo and Fossato di Vico, is a paradise for mountain sports like paragliding, caving, cross-country skiing and hiking. It is also the kingdom of the wolf, the golden eagle and the falcon.

Gubbio, the perfect example of a medieval city, is the heart of the territory that beats passionately during the famous Corsa dei Ceri, or candle race, held each year on May 15th. The city has its medieval charm intact, embracing you as you walk through the narrow streets and squares, and visit the churches and buildings. The Church of San Francesco (13th century) houses a highly prized cycle of frescoes. Continuing along Via dei Consoli you will come to the Bargello Fountain.

Continuing straight on you will reach Piazza Grande, one of the most charming medieval constructions with a panoramic balcony overlooking the Gubbio basin. Here you will find some of the most beautiful buildings in Gubbio, including Palazzo dei Consoli. This building houses the Tablets of Gubbio (seven bronze tablets, which attest to the civilisation and the language of the ancient Umbrian tribe) and the Art Gallery, with works by Palmerucci, Signorelli, Nelli, Barocci and many others on display.

The Gothic cathedral (12th century) and Palazzo Ducale (15th century), the residence of Federico da Montefeltro with its elegant courtyard, stand in contrast in the upper part of the city. the Basilica of Sant’Ubaldo (16th century) rises up on the peak of Mt. Ingino.

Another important town is Gualdo Tadino, which boasts important works of art by Matteo da Gualdo, one of the most eclectic painters of the fiftenth century. The town’s art of ceramics makes it one of the most important production centres in the region.

The area’s active and flourishing crafts industry is tied to the history and traditions of the territory. High quality wares in wrought iron, wood, leather and ceramic are crafted in the workshops of Gubbio and Gualdo Tadino.

The cuisine is faithful to the customs and traditions tied to the seasons and local crops.
