1st day

ASSISI – SANCTUARY OF VERNA – SANSEPOLCRO (about 35 km)

Arriving in Assisi in the morning, leave the car and move by private van to the Sanctuary of La Verna, from where the first stage by bicycle begins. You can visit the suggestive sanctuary, nestled in the woods, before setting off on your bike. You will cross Pieve Santo Stefano, before skirting the lake of Montedoglio and then arriving in Sansepolcro. Dinner and overnight stay in a structure in San Sepolcro

2nd day

SANSEPOLCRO-CITY OF CASTELLO (30 KM)

You will leave Sansepolcro behind to cycle through the countryside between Tuscany and Umbria. The only climb of the day is the one, quite steep, which will lead you to the village of Citerna. From here continue towards Città di Castello, making the most of the dirt cycle path that runs along the Tiber river. Dinner and overnight stay in a structure in Città di Castello

3rd day

CITY OF CASTELLO-PIETRALUNGA (30 KM)

One of the most demanding stages of the entire Northern route, with two climbs to overcome. The first is long and regular, immersed in the woods, which alternating dirt and asphalt will lead you to Pieve de’ Saddi. The second is shorter, but steep, just before reaching Pietralunga, a small village surrounded by greenery, ideal for relaxing and resting. Dinner and overnight stay in a structure in Pietralunga

4th day

PIETRALUNGA-GUBBIO (24 KM)

Leaving behind Pietralunga, you will cycle on roads immersed in the green of the Umbrian nature, almost completely free of traffic. Also in this stage you will have to face two climbs, but not too demanding. The last kilometers before arriving in the heart of Gubbio will be completely flat. Dinner and overnight stay in Gubbio

5° day

GUBBIO-VALFABBRICA (33 KM)

In the morning sightseeing tour of the city with the Gubbio Express. Another stage that flows through the nature of the Umbrian Apennines and which will bring you significantly closer to Assisi. Along the way you will have to face two climbs, which will give you wonderful views of the surrounding valleys before arriving in the small historic village of Valfabbrica. 6th day

VALFABBRICA-ASSISI (22 KM)

Assisi is now upon us and the few kilometers to go will allow you to arrive easily. You will only have to overcome a few ups and downs in the first part of the day, while the last kilometers, which alternate dirt and asphalt, flow in the Umbrian plain from where you can already see the unmistakable profile of Assisi. Time to discover the city

N.B. Each evening of the itinerary, overnight stays are provided in structures such as, for example, the Pilgrim’s Refectory of the Sanctuary of La Verna, 3/2-star hotels, farmhouses and guest houses, along the Via di Francesco route, which have availability, thus guaranteeing overnight stays every night and dinner in the structure.

A three-day proposal in one of the most beautiful areas of Umbria, which combines the beauties of Spoleto and villages such as Sant’Anatolia, Scheggino, Ferentillo and Arrone, with the uncontaminated nature of the Valnerina, before ending in front of the stupendous spectacle of the Marmore waterfall. You will pedal along the evocative route of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway, in the section that goes from Spoleto to Sant’Anatolia di Narco, the one with the most viaducts and tunnels, and then in the Greenway section which runs along the Nera and which will take you to the waterfalls always away from traffic.

The itinerary develops in the southern area of Umbria, between Spoleto and Valnerina. On the first day we will have to face the pass that leads up to the Caprareccia tunnel: it is about 6 kilometres but with very gentle slopes, given that in the past it was travelled by train. The second day there are no demanding climbs, but mostly ups and downs that need to be tackled with the right gears. In the second day, in any case, the route mainly tends to descend.

Day 1

Individual arrival in Spoleto. The historic centre is full of artistic and cultural beauties, which in recent years have been made famous by the filming of “Don Matteo”. In addition, in every period of the year it offers entertainment opportunities such as festivals, shows, displays. A city on a human scale, ideal to discover on foot or even by bike, an optimal starting point for our tours.

Day 2 – Spoleto-Castel San Felice (20km)

A truly suggestive itinerary, which will allow you to pedal along the route of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway, facing tunnels and viaducts that will take you into the greenery of the Valnerina. The first part of the fraction is all uphill, while the second is downhill. The slopes are never challenging.

Day 3 – Castel San Felice-Marmore Falls (30km)

A route that alternates asphalt and dirt and runs along the Nera River, immersed in the nature of the Valnerina and away from traffic. You will cross the villages of Sant’Anatolia di Narco, Scheggino, Ferentillo and Arrone before arriving at the Marmore waterfall.

The rate is per person in a double room and includes:

• Van from the Marmore Falls for the return and recovery of the vehicle

Saturday 

The day will be spent entirely by bicycle. Departure in the morning from Passignano sul Trasimeno in the direction of Castiglione del Lago. The route runs along the lakeside on an unpaved dirt road, transforming into a pleasant cycle-pedestrian itinerary on gravel and compacted earth, with numerous pedestrian bridges and picnic areas. The scenery of the reeds and the ease with which you will be able to see the wild birds in this stretch of the protected area of Lake Trasimeno deserves numerous stops that allow you to gaze out over the lake.

Free lunch

We will make a brief stop at Campo del Sole and on the shores of Tuoro sul Trasimeno, theatre of the “battle of Trasimeno”, which took place on 24 June 217 BC, in which Hannibal’s Carthaginian army defeated the Roman army.

Return by bike.

Sunday

In the morning, departure for a mini-cruise to Isola Maggiore, one of the three islands of the lake, the only one inhabited. It hosted St. Francis during an entire Lent. The small village consists of a single entirely paved road along which the houses of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries overlook, among which the pretty house of the Capitano del Popolo stands out.
