1° day

Arrival in the early afternoon and free walk around Spoleto, city of the Festival dei Due Mondi and more recently known as the setting for the TV series “Don Matteo”. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the historic city center, rich in artistic and cultural treasures, which have been made famous in recent years by the filming of “Don Matteo”. Throughout the year, the city offers entertainment opportunities such as festivals, exhibitions, and shows. Spoleto is a human-scale city, ideal for exploring on foot or by bike, and is an optimal starting point for our tours. Overnight stay in accommodation.

2° day

After breakfast, we will move near Trevi to visit the Museum of Olive Civilization and stop at an olive oil mill for a tasting of extra virgin olive oil. There’s an option to organize a bicycle ride along the Olive Belt that connects Spoleto to Assisi. Lunch on your own. In the afternoon, we continue to Campello sul Clitunno for a stroll through the village. Visit with a tasting at a Trebbiano Spoletino winery. Overnight stay in accommodation.

3° day

After breakfast, before returning to your destination, we suggest a stop at the Marmore Falls, with entrance to the park.

    The area extending between Spoleto, Castel Ritaldi, and Giano dell’Umbria is characterized by a landscape of gentle hills where the cultivation of Trebbiano Spoletino alternates with olive trees. The numerous fortresses and castles dominate the landscape, bearing witness to the importance of the Duchy of Spoleto in the Middle Ages.

    1° day

    Arrival in Spoleto in the early afternoon. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the historic city center, rich in artistic and cultural treasures, which have recently been made famous by the filming of “Don Matteo.” Throughout the year, the city offers various entertainment opportunities such as festivals, exhibitions, and shows. It is a human-scale city, ideal for exploring on foot or by bike, and serves as an excellent starting point for our tours. We suggest a walk through the village of Campello Alto.

    2° day

    After breakfast, the walk, also possible by e-bike, will allow you to discover two villages in the area: Giano dell’Umbria, located at the foot of the Monti Martani, features its own castle and the notable Abbey of San Felice, with its 6th-century crypt housing the saint’s relics. Next, you’ll continue to Castel Ritaldi, formed from the merging of three medieval villages: Castel Ritaldi itself, Colle del Marchese, and Castel San Giovanni, where the castle was built by Cardinal Albornoz in 1376.

    During the day, there will be a stop at a winery producing Trebbiano Spoletino for a tasting with a snack.

    3° day

    After breakfast and before returning to your destination, there will be a stop at the Fonti of Clitunno, described by Goethe in his journey through Italy.

        ASSISI – SANCTUARY OF VERNA – SANSEPOLCRO (about 35 km)

        Arriving in Assisi in the morning, leave the car and move by private van to the Sanctuary of La Verna, from where the first stage by bicycle begins. You can visit the suggestive sanctuary, nestled in the woods, before setting off on your bike. You will cross Pieve Santo Stefano, before skirting the lake of Montedoglio and then arriving in Sansepolcro. Dinner and overnight stay in a structure in San Sepolcro

          2nd day

          SANSEPOLCRO-CITY OF CASTELLO (30 KM)

          You will leave Sansepolcro behind to cycle through the countryside between Tuscany and Umbria. The only climb of the day is the one, quite steep, which will lead you to the village of Citerna. From here continue towards Città di Castello, making the most of the dirt cycle path that runs along the Tiber river. Dinner and overnight stay in a structure in Città di Castello

            3rd day

            CITY OF CASTELLO-PIETRALUNGA (30 KM)

            One of the most demanding stages of the entire Northern route, with two climbs to overcome. The first is long and regular, immersed in the woods, which alternating dirt and asphalt will lead you to Pieve de’ Saddi. The second is shorter, but steep, just before reaching Pietralunga, a small village surrounded by greenery, ideal for relaxing and resting. Dinner and overnight stay in a structure in Pietralunga

              4th day

              PIETRALUNGA-GUBBIO (24 KM)

              Leaving behind Pietralunga, you will cycle on roads immersed in the green of the Umbrian nature, almost completely free of traffic. Also in this stage you will have to face two climbs, but not too demanding. The last kilometers before arriving in the heart of Gubbio will be completely flat. Dinner and overnight stay in Gubbio

                5th day

                GUBBIO-VALFABBRICA (33 KM)

                In the morning sightseeing tour of the city with the Gubbio Express. Another stage that flows through the nature of the Umbrian Apennines and which will bring you significantly closer to Assisi. Along the way you will have to face two climbs, which will give you wonderful views of the surrounding valleys before arriving in the small historic village of Valfabbrica. Dinner and overnight stay in a structure in Valfabbrica

                  6th day

                  VALFABBRICA-ASSISI (22 KM)

                  Assisi is now upon us and the few kilometers to go will allow you to arrive easily. You will only have to overcome a few ups and downs in the first part of the day, while the last kilometers, which alternate dirt and asphalt, flow in the Umbrian plain from where you can already see the unmistakable profile of Assisi. Time to discover the city

You will cycle along the scenic route of the former Spoleto-Norcia railway, from Spoleto to Sant’Anatolia di Narco, the section richest in viaducts and tunnels, and then along the Greenway that runs along the Nera River, taking you to the waterfalls, always away from traffic.

                          Individual arrival in Spoleto. The historic centre is full of artistic and cultural beauties. The first part of the fraction is all uphill, while the second is downhill. The slopes are never challenging.

                          Day 3 – Castel San Felice-Marmore Falls (30km)

                          A route that alternates asphalt and dirt and runs along the Nera River, immersed in the nature of the Valnerina and away from traffic. You will cross the villages of Sant’Anatolia di Narco, Scheggino, Ferentillo and Arrone before arriving at the Marmore waterfall.

                            SATURDAY

                            The day will be spent entirely on bicycles. Depart in the morning from Passignano sul Trasimeno towards Castiglione del Lago. The route follows the lake on an unpaved road, transforming into a pleasant cycling and walking path on gravel and compacted earth, with numerous pedestrian bridges and picnic areas. The scenery of the reed beds and the ease with which you can spot wildlife in this part of the protected area of Lake Trasimeno, merit numerous stops that allow you to take in the views of the lake.
                            Lunch on your own
                            A brief stop will be made at the Campo del Sole and the shores of Tuoro sul Trasimeno, the site of the “Battle of Trasimeno” which took place on June 24, 217 BC, where Hannibal’s Carthaginian army defeated the Roman army.

                            In the morning, a mini-cruise will take you to Isola Maggiore, one of the three islands of the lake, and the only one inhabited.                                       The first stop on the itinerary for the family will be Orvieto. Here, thanks to the Carta Unica, you will have access to the main monuments of the city. In particular, we suggest the Pozzo di San Patrizio, a real masterpiece of Renaissance engineering. It was built in the 16th century to guarantee citizens water at any time of the year, especially in the event of a disaster or a prolonged siege. You can reach the bottom of the Well through a long spiral staircase of 248 steps, while to go up again you will have to use a second ramp.
